# Discounts overview

> Learn how price policies and coupons reduce regular prices, how automatic and code-based discounts differ, and when to use each.

Discounts let you reduce the regular ticket price. In Entase, you can offer discounts through [price policies](/organizers/discounts/creating-a-price-policy.md) or [coupons](/organizers/discounts/creating-a-coupon.md). Both use rules to determine whether a discount applies, but customers receive them in different ways.

## Use the AI Assistant

The AI Assistant is available on all Price Policies and Coupons pages. It can create price policies, add policy rules, create coupons, enable or disable them, attach price policies to events, and explain how discounts work.

To open the AI Assistant, click AI assistant button at the top of the page. A chat window opens in a pop-over. Always review the configuration it produces before relying on it.

## How coupons differ from price policies

| | Coupons | Price policies |
|---|---|---|
| Applied by | Customer | Automatically |
| Requires customer action | Yes | No |
| Visible to customer before checkout | No | Yes |

Both mechanisms can work together. A coupon can be combined with an active price policy when it is created with the “with price policy” option. To understand how Entase handles multiple eligible discounts, see [Discount stacking explained](/organizers/discounts/discount-stacking-explained.md).

## Price policies

Price policies are attached to individual events and apply discounts automatically when a customer's checkout selection matches their rules. You can use them for discounts based on actions or booking details such as the number of tickets selected, sector, or attendee social status, including student, child, or retired status.

Use a price policy when eligible customers should receive the discount without entering a code. For example, you might apply a group discount when a customer selects a certain number of tickets, or offer a reduced price for students.

## Coupons

Coupons are promotional codes that customers enter manually at checkout. When a customer applies a code and their order matches the coupon's conditions, the coupon discount is applied.

Use a coupon when you want customers to opt in to a discount by entering a code—for example, for a campaign, partner promotion, or a discount shared with a specific audience.

## Choosing the right discount

Choose a price policy when the discount should be applied automatically based on the customer's order or eligibility. Choose a coupon when the customer should enter a promotional code to request the discount.

Price policies and coupons can both affect the same order. To understand how Entase handles multiple eligible discounts, see [Discount stacking explained](/organizers/discounts/discount-stacking-explained.md).
